I was extremely restless, so I decided to do a sketchdump during church and finish it up during dinner. I feels good to really exercise my ability to draw what I can think of without using a reference. The Joker, on the bottom left, doesn't quite look like the typical Bruce Timm Joker, but it's good efforts nonetheless. Again, this was really refreshing to draw a variety of styles.

weekend work out
Burnes Hogarth portrait practice
Just a little more portrait practice so I can nail down the cranium structure of the head better. Both of these look so good that it's hard to believe that there are a couple subtle errors in this.
cross contour practice
Yesterday, and today, I started practicing with more cross contour techniques. I really should practice with variations of this sheet from my observational drawing book.
Dexter's Lab sketchdump
I'm trying to assert myself to doing at least one sketchdump a day for the month of March. So I started out this month with a sketch dump of Dexter's Lab, one of my favorite cartoons growing up.
various sketchdump
This was done to mess around with what I've learned so far and experiment with different styles, aside from Bobby Bender or Amelia Enmity.
Bitch, I live in a F*ckin Trashcan!
Hah! I couldn't resist doing a sketch of Elmo and Oscar the Grouch. I like the 2nd one better because it shows more flavor for Oscar and Elmo. Plus, it allows me to experiment with how to challenge the typical art standards of the Sesame Street gang.
GIR
Reporting for duty! (Gosh, I miss drawing him).
Lindsay/Lydia Comic strip
These are three individual takes of one comic strip that I've been trying to submit to the Forum-- my college paper. I've been hearing that the editor's reaction has been really sketchy, so here's hoping that this one will get accepting into this week's paper.
That's all for now folks.

expanding my ambitions...
Burne Hogarth sketchdumps
After reading a chapter from Burne Hogarth's book, Dynamic Anatomy, it has inspired me to take the challenge of drawing the human anatomy better and really experimenting with detail. In fact, I also feel inspired to bring out the Renaissance in me.
Invader Zim composition practice
I wanted to rewatch the Invader Zim episode 'Gaz, Taster of Pork' so I could capture the moment where Zim and Dibs have a conversation with each other; I paused after the part where Zim shouts 'You're making it up!' and focused on capturing the mood of the moment. ;)
Spork licking Glork
Since I'm developing that flash project with my aliens, I plan to work with some pencil tests and plan out an outline for a promo.
Here, I decided to expand on my Jim Davis influence and have Spork lick Glork, akin to Odie licking Garfield. lol I think this sketch might become the first pencil test I may work with my aliens.
Hope to update again soon. :)

Bad sketch week
The rest of this wasn't really a great week in terms of sketching. It wasn't the worst, but it certainly wasn't the best. Point in case? I'll show you my artwork...
Doug TenNapel sketches...
I decided to practice with a bit of DT sketches; I always had been fascinated in digging deeper into his graphic novels since they have such a unique style. I think I'll get them next time I get back to the bookstore.
Kairi Bruce Timm style studies take 1
Again, I've been inspired to draw Kairi, from Kingdom Hearts, in the style of Bruce Timm. As you can see, I kinda know what I want to do, but Im having a hard time trying to ink her correctly.
Kung Pow Kat studies take 1
These are some sketches of my character, Kung Pow Kat. Me and my friend from Creative Writing are working on a story together, and I thought I'd do the honor of introducing KPK unto this world.
As you can see in these sketches, I have a good idea of what to do with him. But the form and proportions need to be heavily worked on. Even the body itself looks too skinny.
Dib's Haunted Gummi Bear Collection Take 1
This is a sketch that I always wanted to do after watching the episode 'Gaz, Taster of Pork' in which Dib utters that one line 'My Haunted Gummi Bear Collection!' when Gaz takes a bit out of them. In this case, his haunted Gummis are the Gummi Bears from the popular Disney TV show. XD
Somehow I feel the prismacolor pencil here kinda messed up the complexion of the piece because of how shallow it looks. Even the ink was pretty crappy. But no worries, this month, I'm gonna resketch this, and Kairi so I can get a better idea.

Quick art update.
One of these pics is not like the other
Anyway, this is my next submission for the Forum paper due next week. I think I may send them the top one instead because I feel the bottom shadowing could've been better. I guess I thought it would add a little life to Amelia Enmity.
Still, this is a job well done. I especially like how I'm improving with Amelia's expression. I kinda borrowed Dib's forehead grunts, as seen on Amelia's. haha
Chuck Jones attempt
At because I wanted to improve my cartooning, I got the motivation to check out Chuck Jones' character designs that he did for the Looney Tunes at WB. I can't say that they're perfect, but they are good starts.
Dib varieties
And of course, here are some variety designs of Dib from Invader Zim. I found off of one of the websites of the character designer for the show, Aaron Alexovich. These are good practice to help draw Dib better. :)
That's all for now folks. See you soon.

What a week! I turned 21
Hey guys! I got some great news! My interview with the owner of Funny Business Comic books down at Downtown Nyack was seen in the paper today, when I picked it up. Unfortunately, there was no strip seen in the paper, but this is a good start for the year.
And of course, I managed to post new art this week, as well as Birthday art this week since I turned 21 on Wednesday.
Tom Servo ala Terminator
It feels nice to sketch a Mst3k character again. I have really been watching that show every week now. I wish they brought it back so they could get Tom Servo and Crow back with Mike or Joel in the silloutte corner.
Anyway, this is a sketch of Tom Servo dressed in his Terminator outfit as seen at the end of Hobgoblins. Looks like somebody's gonna get kicked in the shin tonight. ;)
Skull w/ Bday cake.
Since I turned 21 on Wednesday, I thought I'd draw myself a little birthday sketch. Cool, isn't it?
Zim sketches
I think I'm starting to get better at sketch Zim characters, but I still need work in some areas, like facial expressions and a few other factors.
Zombie Boyfriend
Of course, after I drew the Zombie girl for the comic strip for the college paper, I decided to sketch her a boyfriend. Wait till I sketch them together in their own picture. ;)
Well, that's just about it for now folks. Can't wait to update soon. :)

new comic for college paper and more!
Here is a new submission that I plan to showcase for my college paper. It's also considered to be my 2nd comic that I've illustrated because it required panels (though it could be considered a funny).
This showcases my 3 aliens: Ork, Glork N Spork with Spork in his insane glory. :P
Well at least he didn't think it was a deer. XD
Also, I got to conduct an interview for the college paper featuring the owner of the comic book shop I like to go to in Nyack. I'll be sure to post it when it comes out. ;)
As promised, I drew some more Invader Zim art. Ms. Bitters was really fun to draw because I got to experiment with a more angular style with her hands and her face.
It also features Professor Membrane and the McMeatie's Employee and the Paranormal agent from 'Career' Day. Jhonen Vasquez's style is pretty inspiring. ^^
I hope to draw more in the future.

And down here is a rare zombie drawing. Woo Hoo! :D After I get some more work done tonight and this week, I'm gonna experiment with more zombies, considering that Halloween is down the street and around the corner this month. ;)

tattoo # 2
Hooray! I finished my 2nd tattoo design for my friend on Campus! This calls for a drink! *inserts Mst3k Final Sacrifice reference* Have a drink on me tattoo! :P
I can't wait to hear her feedback on these babies.
And of course, I have to update on my current Invader Zim rave since I promised that I'd draw more characters again for practice.
This time, with Gaz, I seem to be getting better. The form looks more spot on with her design, as seen on TV, the shadowing has improved, and my cartooning in general is improving because I'm practicing more and more with the characters. :)
Just imagine how my future work will be like after drawing these guys for weeks. ;)
As you can tell, my cartooning is already improving, as seen with the design of one of my original characters, Max Motep, the moronic mummy whose not too bright. ;)
Once again, he's another main character apart of some sort of horror/dark comedy project that also features Amelia Enmity. As you can see on the right, this is what his final design should look like.
I can already tell that my style is emerging (after practicing with artwork by Bruce Timm, Tad Stones, Jhonen Vasquez and some John K). ;)
Well, that's just about it for now. I need to get back to my regularly scheduled program and work on homework.

Tattoo and Dib
While I was tackling my schoolwork, I managed to design my very first tattoo, that a friend on campus requested. This is actually the first of the few that she requested. Huzzah! :D
This kind takes me back when I wanted to design my own tattoos two years ago, when I wanted to draw a bunch of angry killer tomatoes flying on my chest. :P
This morning, I rewatched some episodes of Invader Zim again just to capture Dib's personality and face. My next step is to tackle Zim's alien form, GIR's robot form, retakes on Gaz's expressions and probably some side sketches of the characters from the show such as Professor Membrane, Bloaty, Ms Bitters, etc.

Did you miss me?
Hi folks! Sorry I haven't been as up to date as I used to be. This time I got a lot of drawing done over the time when I was sick at home. I even was able to do some sketching for my Trouble Shooters project, in the meantime.
Here's some new art I think you should all check out:
Here's some new art I think you should all check out:
Chris Peeper studies
It was nice to go back and sketch Chris again, after so long. In this picture, I was experimenting with different expressions just to capture his feelings.
Crusader Robot variation samples
I decided to sketch variation of Crusader Robots, rather than simply use costumed variations of Gizmo. These are better because they have a spirit more in line for my 'Gizmo's Clone Wars' type of story.
Corkey Roberts
There are some really good pictures of Corkey here, but I felt there were some sketches that missed the mark. All in all, these aren't bad.
Invader Zim art
Whilst I was sketching for my TS project, I decided to experiment with my Invader Zim/Jhonen Vasque influence. I heard that there's an internet community that's planning on animating some Invader Zim episodes, so I thought I sketch some characters just to see if I'm cut out for such a task of working on such a great project. ;)
Zim (Human)
At the top left hand corner, you can tell that I was experimenting with colors (one with a colored pencil, an another with one of my faber castell markers I recently ordered). All in all, good expressions.
GIR (Dog suit)
How can I forget about GIR-- Zim's trusty robot sidekick? XD He's becoming my personal favorite character now. ^^
Gaz
Now she's one of my favorite characters on the show. Gaz shows the feelings that everybody feels when they have a brother who steals his/her food and makes them suffer XD I think she was actually the inspiration for one of my own characters, Amelia Enmity.
Also, there's one more piece of creativity that I want to share; just last night I wrote a short story for my creative writing class. And since this is a blog where I promised to talk about short stories, I thought I'd share you a piece of my writing so you have what kind of idea my writing skills are at.

New drawings...
Recently, after watching Invader Zim on Nicktoons TV, I decided to sketch some of the characters so I could learn the style of Jhonen Vasquez.
Of course, this wouldn't be a blog, where I'd sketch down my ideas, if I didn't sketch down this character idea-- Mole Osteen. I like the mix between Spumco, Disney, Tyler Crook, etc. that I gave this character.
More to come in the future! ;)
