Max Motep update sketch

This is another sketch of Max Motep the mummy. I'm thinking about changing his last name though, because it feels a bit too generic; I want something more unique in a last name, considering he's a mummy.

 Jack Kirby Avengers cover take 1

I am not 100% happy with this take of the Avengers comic cover that I own. I really think it should be better by fixing the ink work, as well as the anatomic structure of the characters. Also, if you notice closely, Ant-Man/Giant-Man and Wasp are missing. That's because I put more emphasis on Thor, Hulk, Iron Man and Loki, so I could focus on what I saw before my eyes without enough time to examine everything else.

This is another take from my drawing observation book, so I can practice with shading and shapes. I can tell that my skills are starting to improve by greater strides. :)

This is just a sketchdump of the Looney Tunes that I've been experimenting with on sunday, while reading Chuck Amuck. It's nice to know that I'm getting better at drawing the characters better. 

Cross-Contour Sheets

 My Professor wants me to experiment with Cross-contour lines this week. So I decided to practice with my Life Observation book. I need to work on edges so I can get a better angle of the wrinkles of sheets.

Burnes Hogarth portraits

These are a bunch of portraits that I practiced, ala referenced from my Burnes Hogarth anatomy book. While these still need a lot of work, I can tell that there's some beautiness coming out of these drawings. Still some lines that need to be fixed up, but I think through hard work, it can be handled.

Refreshed Lindsay/Lydia comic

I almost forgot to mention that I decided to redraw my Lindsay/Lydia comic where they complain about the cafe food. I hope that this comic gets published in the next issue of the Forum because I haven't seen any work of mine get published in the college paper at all. I really hope that maybe the editors will start publishing some of my stuff because I'm really trying to push the envelope on writing these comics so I can improve on the story/scenarios and improve on timing of my jokes.

Figurin it out

Figure drawings

These are just a couple of figure drawings that I practiced with during my Studio Drawing 2 class. It helps me suggest the movement of the poses without having to draw the whole person's features. Looks like my experience will be paying off soon enough. :)

Burnes Hogarth drawings

And of course, I can't live without my detailed body part sketches of what I'm learning. It helps to really copy the real deal as you progress through life. :)

Tennis Player drawing

This is just a small drawing of what I'm doing for my MidTerm project for Studio Drawing 2. I'm drawing this tennis player on a full scale Strathmore pad at the exact same pose.

Jim Henson Value sketch

This was based upon an old Jim Henson photo that was taken back in 1971, but I'm not really too happy with the quality of the drawing. I think I may redraw it again after I get work done on my project for school.

Still from Chuck Jones DD cartoon

This was a layout drawing featured in Chuck Jones' book 'Chuck Amuck' which was from a Duck Dodgers cartoon. I forgot what the name of it was, but I'm sure I remember it.

Still Life Practice Fruit

This is just a resketch of an old fruit piece that I drew last week. I wasn't too pleased with the results of the first one. I like this better.

This was also a 2nd take on a shape drawing that I did. I consider this an improvement from before because I'm less focused on drawing the lines and more focused on the shading and perspective.

Burnes Hogarth hands

I didn't have art class this week, so I took the liberty of practicing with hands so I could improve on drawing more parts of the body. I may continue practicing with legs if I have more time.

 Chuck Jones drawings

I've been doing a lot of reading on the history of animation, including from books like Chuck Amuck, so I decided to practice drawing some Chuck Jones style Looney Tunes. I think there's much that needs work on with the way I'm drawing them. I think I may focus more on the human figure before I dive back into drawing cartoons.

Anyway, just wanted to let you cool cats who are viewing my blog right now that I am still keeping busy this week, as well as drawing more and more art. The most that I have drawn this week had to be sunday night.

But enough talk-- here's some more cartoon sketches...

Daffy Duck studies

Just some more observation sketches from watching more and more Chuck Jones cartoons, most notably 'Duck Amuck'. That was one fun cartoon that I watched growing up. I still have minor detail issues to work out with Daffy though.

Darkwing Duck cover 10 A practice

And since I was so obsessed with drawing Ducks, I decided to practice with this DW Duck cover featuring the ever so suave Steelbeak and the founders of FOWL [Fiendish Organization for World Larceny]. I currently own this issue, but in the Cover B edition (still need to get issue 11 though :P)

You can tell with this cover that there's a bunch of details that went amiss. Despite that, I worked to at least get it done, with or without DW on the bottom center, and managed to make some progress.

Ren and Stimpy sketch

This is a sketch about a whale...No! This is a sketch about being happy! That's right-- it's the Happy Happy Joy Joy sketch!

That's right folks! My first strip of the year finally made it's way into the forum. It took me 2 months to get something published in that college paper, but I am grateful for it. I can't wait till the next issue comes out. :)

 New Tattoo design

This is the new tattoo design for my friend from college who wanted it modified for the sake of fitting all the names in one chain. Pretty cool, huh?

Bugs Bunny from Rabbit Rampage

 

Just some more Bugs Bunny drawings from the LT cartoon, 'Rabbit Rampage' directed by Chuck Jones. Now that I'm drawing more Chuck Jones art, I think I'm starting to naturally draw Bugs better. :)

 Justin Casey Strikes Back

Since I haven't drawing Justin Casey in ages, I thought I'd do him the honor of drawing him again. He looks pretty epic, you know? Oh BTW, that toy he's holding is a Psalty Peanut doll-- a character I created for the Trouble Shooters universe. Basically, he's a popular children's church character with a sarcastic attitude. ;)

Ork, Glork N Spork talking back at Benny Hinn

Hah! I always wanted to draw something like this. Now I'm expanding on my Mystery Science Theater 3000 influences and put my 3 aliens in the most appropriate spot possible-- talking back at money hungry televangelists like Benny Hinn. :P

While this sketch isn't perfect, it certainly looks overall good. I especially like how Glork talks back at Benny Hinn by uttering "And become smarter than the average BEAR.'" Now, after reading the dialogue alone, you probably won't get the joke. Well, in a video exposing Benny Hinn, when he remarked 'Receive the Power of the Holy Ghost', he sounded a lot like Yogi Bear. In retaliation, Glork talks back in a Yogi Bear voice. XD

John Hoffman sketches

These were taken off of John Hoffman's Monkeyfeather blog. Since I wanted to experiment with a variety of style, I practiced a bit with his character expression variations.

Chuck Jones drawings

I think I've already become completely inspired by Chuck Jones' animation and storytelling style. Already, I feel the need to release the inner animator inside me.

Sketchdump for upcoming college funnie

This little sketchdump is a surprise for what's to come this week. While I won't be able to attend this week's Forum meeting, I will be able to submit the next funny with these following characters. I don't wanna spoil any details, you I'll let you figure it out from here. ;)

As you can see, it seems as though after a few series of sketchwork that things will be better than last week.

Darkwing Duck panel practice

As you can see in this sketch, I'm starting to get the hang of drawing Darkwing Duck's face. You see, I could never really get the hang of drawing his mouth connecting to his face; but after practicing with volumetrics and other DW drawings, his face is starting to show. And if you pay close attention, you'll notice the differences between the original panel and this one.

Chuck Jones practice

I felt the need of drawing some more Chuck Jones art to enhance my cartooning. You can tell that Wile E. Coyote still needs work with form, but overall, this is a good start. I like how Ralph the dog came out and managed to execute his form

Burnes Hogarth practice

 

You know, after working with these quick sketches from Burne Hogarth's book 'Dynamic Anatomy', some of what I learned last year in Studio Drawing 1 are starting to look familiar...Still, this is good practice so I can get a better handle on human-like drawings and practice with Anatomy.

And of course, let me have the pleasure of reintroducing my 3 aliens-- Ork, Glork N Spork. I have something very special planned for these three guys. Wait till you see in the days ahead. ;)

Quick art update.

Anyway, this is my next submission for the Forum paper due next week. I think I may send them the top one instead because I feel the bottom shadowing could've been better. I guess I thought it would add a little life to Amelia Enmity.

Still, this is a job well done. I especially like how I'm improving with Amelia's expression. I kinda borrowed Dib's forehead grunts, as seen on Amelia's. haha

Chuck Jones attempt

At because I wanted to improve my cartooning, I got the motivation to check out Chuck Jones' character designs that he did for the Looney Tunes at WB. I can't say that they're perfect, but they are good starts.

Dib varieties

And of course, here are some variety designs of Dib from Invader Zim. I found off of one of the websites of the character designer for the show, Aaron Alexovich. These are good practice to help draw Dib better. :)
