new comic strip...
Hey folks. Guess what? Lindsay and Lydia may be making their way back to the Nyack college paper. Down below is the new submission for the hopefully first ever comic strip for the fall...
In case you are wondering about the Amelia Enmity comic that I've been working on all month, that is almost done and I still need to finish inking it. I promise I will get it finished by this month.
Until then, peace out!

quick comic strip update
Lindsay and Lydia comic
This is a quick comic strip that I drew for the Forum that's due this week. The idea is to cover about the new advisement system going on at the college and how it could catch many students by surprise if they don't take the necessary actions to sign up for courses.
Hopefully, this should make the paper.
See you later.

weekend work out
Burnes Hogarth portrait practice
Just a little more portrait practice so I can nail down the cranium structure of the head better. Both of these look so good that it's hard to believe that there are a couple subtle errors in this.
cross contour practice
Yesterday, and today, I started practicing with more cross contour techniques. I really should practice with variations of this sheet from my observational drawing book.
Dexter's Lab sketchdump
I'm trying to assert myself to doing at least one sketchdump a day for the month of March. So I started out this month with a sketch dump of Dexter's Lab, one of my favorite cartoons growing up.
various sketchdump
This was done to mess around with what I've learned so far and experiment with different styles, aside from Bobby Bender or Amelia Enmity.
Bitch, I live in a F*ckin Trashcan!
Hah! I couldn't resist doing a sketch of Elmo and Oscar the Grouch. I like the 2nd one better because it shows more flavor for Oscar and Elmo. Plus, it allows me to experiment with how to challenge the typical art standards of the Sesame Street gang.
GIR
Reporting for duty! (Gosh, I miss drawing him).
Lindsay/Lydia Comic strip
These are three individual takes of one comic strip that I've been trying to submit to the Forum-- my college paper. I've been hearing that the editor's reaction has been really sketchy, so here's hoping that this one will get accepting into this week's paper.
That's all for now folks.

last day of the month
Chuck Jones sketchdump
This is just a sketchdump of the Looney Tunes that I've been experimenting with on sunday, while reading Chuck Amuck. It's nice to know that I'm getting better at drawing the characters better.
Cross-Contour Sheets
My Professor wants me to experiment with Cross-contour lines this week. So I decided to practice with my Life Observation book. I need to work on edges so I can get a better angle of the wrinkles of sheets.
Burnes Hogarth portraits
These are a bunch of portraits that I practiced, ala referenced from my Burnes Hogarth anatomy book. While these still need a lot of work, I can tell that there's some beautiness coming out of these drawings. Still some lines that need to be fixed up, but I think through hard work, it can be handled.
Refreshed Lindsay/Lydia comic
I almost forgot to mention that I decided to redraw my Lindsay/Lydia comic where they complain about the cafe food. I hope that this comic gets published in the next issue of the Forum because I haven't seen any work of mine get published in the college paper at all. I really hope that maybe the editors will start publishing some of my stuff because I'm really trying to push the envelope on writing these comics so I can improve on the story/scenarios and improve on timing of my jokes.
That's all for tonight. Good night, everybody!

something to tide you over...
Gorillaz sketch
I decided that I wanted to take challenges and start learning more forms of art, so I decided to experiment with some stuff done by Jamie Hewlett- his work on the Gorillaz. You know, after drawing this, I feel like JH's work kinda resembles some of my own work. I hope to keep experimenting with more of his stuff to execute a unique style.
Bugs Bunny sketch
I decided to try out drawing the Bugs Bunny picture. I'm glad I did good on my first try.
Burnes Hogarth sketches
Half of these are sketches that I drew Thursday night and the other half tonight. It's nice to know that I'm starting to focus on form and proportions to work out the anatomy. The fingers could use a little more work, including for the top left picture of the 4th page. But good nonetheless.
shading practice
This is some shading practice from one of my Life Drawing textbooks tonight. While I'm harnessing a good sense of value, I still need to work on how well the light and dark work together. It'll help when I apply this knowledge into my comic work.
Lindsay and Lydia comic strip
This is another planned submission for my college paper, the Forum. It's about the cafe food that's constantly being served during breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's so bad that it makes most of us Nyack students wonder why there was only good food on visitor's day. XD
Anyway, I think this comic strip isn't bad, but I think it'll help if I redraw it because something about the hands and ink says that I need to work it up. I'm glad that I'm using lighter prismacolor pencils though.
That's all for today folks. I'll update some more stuff when it comes. ;)

comic strip redux
comic strip part deux
Me and a friend went over my comic strip that I drew Saturday night and he made a couple suggestions on how to fix the ending. I decided to reformat it a bit and take his advice. This is going to be the real next submission just in case the Forum editors don't accept the first one.
Amelia Enmity sketch
I missed drawing Amelia Enmity, so I drew her broomsurfing. I think I may do something like this for her in the future, in which she broom-surfs.
That's all for now folks. See you next time.

art daze
Lindsay/Lydia comic strip 2
Okay! This is my 2nd comic strip submission that I'm trying to submit in my college paper, featuring Lindsay and Lydia. Me and a friend were brainstorming ideas of what to go by in terms of submitting ideas based on events going on at my college. Here's hoping that it gets printed.
Pear Still Life
These are pear drawings that I did in order to practice value. I can't say that I'm really keen on these drawings. I may redraw the pair again to execute the value better.
Burnes Hogarth Abdominal drawings
These are two more abdominal drawings that I drew based off from the Burnes Hogarth anatomy book. It seems as though that I'm getting better with proportions so far and getting the abs at the right value. But it never hurts to draw them again.

Lindsay and Lydia comic strip pitch
Lindsay and Lydia
This is my proto debut pitch strip that I want to showcase to the Forum editors so they can start regularly publishing comic strips in the paper. I can't promise this is the most professional of ink jobs (considering that I used a thick and big ink brush), but I think it's not bad for a first strip. Still< I need to work on my lettering so I can get the hang of writing out my sentences in a unique way.

Ah, the Joys of the College Paper!
Hey again you beautiful people!
Just letting you know that I'm still drawing and still managing to keep busy all the while trying to get my submissions for the college paper sent on time. I'm also writing two articles for the paper-- an exclusive interview with Tad Stones [creator of Darkwing Duck/Disney Veteran] and a review of It's a Wonderful Life, that I need to get done by Tuesday.
Anyway, here's some submissions for the paper:
Amelia Enmity in the weather take 2
I decided to resketch this at the request of one of the writer's from the Forum-- she wanted me to fix up the punchline a little and I agreed so forth. That's the beauty of drawing your own work, you get to learn from your mistakes and work them out. I also got to experiment with a different colored shirt for her. I think she looks great. :) And you're probably wondering why her umbrella stick is purposely inverted like that...well, i decided to keep it that way for an undecided reason (I guess it's part of her magic she practices or something lol)
College kid's Coffee Consumption
A lot of the guys at the Forum wanted to cover on the constant coffee consumption that's going around the campus. So I decided to draw this quick comic strip for them. And I had the pleasure of adding a few depictions of a friend from college. ;) Of course, I may color this one after I submit the black and white one.
Garfield sketches
Seeing that I grew up reading the Garfield comic strips as a kid, I thought I'd experiment with the characters to hone my style. I especially love how the signature eyes influenced some of the characters I've created. Jim Davis is probably one of my biggest influences in cartooning. :)
That's all for now--I hope to update some more art soon. :)

Dumping my sketches here...
I have a habit of typing in a centered text format. lol
Anyway, just wanted to let you cool cats who are viewing my blog right now that I am still keeping busy this week, as well as drawing more and more art. The most that I have drawn this week had to be sunday night.
But enough talk-- here's some more cartoon sketches...
Daffy Duck studies
Just some more observation sketches from watching more and more Chuck Jones cartoons, most notably 'Duck Amuck'. That was one fun cartoon that I watched growing up. I still have minor detail issues to work out with Daffy though.
Darkwing Duck cover 10 A practice
And since I was so obsessed with drawing Ducks, I decided to practice with this DW Duck cover featuring the ever so suave Steelbeak and the founders of FOWL [Fiendish Organization for World Larceny]. I currently own this issue, but in the Cover B edition (still need to get issue 11 though :P)
You can tell with this cover that there's a bunch of details that went amiss. Despite that, I worked to at least get it done, with or without DW on the bottom center, and managed to make some progress.
Ren and Stimpy sketch
This is a sketch about a whale...No! This is a sketch about being happy! That's right-- it's the Happy Happy Joy Joy sketch!
And last, but certainly not least....
My funny that I submitted to the forum! :D
That's right folks! My first strip of the year finally made it's way into the forum. It took me 2 months to get something published in that college paper, but I am grateful for it. I can't wait till the next issue comes out. :)
Coming soon, I have a special surprise for the next post. Be sure to stop by when you guys get a chance... ;)

new submissions
Garfield sketchdump
I thought I'd return to my Jim Davis roots and experiment with drawing Garfield characters, as referenced from my Garfield's Life to the Fullest funny book. The funny thing is despite the fact that Jim Davis was one of my early artistic inspirations, I can't seem to draw Garfield 100% spot on. lol But I manage to do a good job though. :)
Amelia Enmity hates homework
This is just a resketched take of what I had previously posted on my blog, as well as submitted to my college paper not too long ago. This is totally better than the first one, but I feel there's a few errors with the perspective and needs a bit more work. However, the perspective works better than what I done previously.
Bad Roommates Comic Strip
This is yet another submission for the college paper in which is corresponds with an article, written by another student, on bad roommates.
I had to color it in because I didn't feel write submitting a funny with no color to fill in for the pencil job. One of these days, I'm gonna get a Cintiq pad and color my pics/comics neater.
