 So yeah-- here I am experimenting with head drawings from my Character Mentor book. I'm really glad that my heads are starting to show more dimension in their shape. And my expressions are really strong too. :)

And who said that my facials weren't the least bit impressive? I have to admit that my nose needs a lot of work, in the bottom pic, but I think I can manage if I keep at it. :)

4th Experimentation of the year...

Nothing much but two other pencil drawings-- one of myself and another Walking Dead practice piece that i copied from my comic I Have.

I'm really proud of how the the facial practice drawing above turned out-- it's much better than the first attempt at drawing myself that I'm embarrassed of posting... ;)

Dumping Drawings

 Because I'm trying to improve upon my life drawing gestures, I started out small with a couple self studies of me looking awkwardly into the camera. I think my life drawing skills are better than earlier this year, but I need to work on details like how my shirt looks-- then again, they were gesture drawings and nothing really detailed.

And because I've been watching Gargoyles again, I've decided to mess around with Goliath's facial expressions because I was bored.

Getting back at school (but not in that vengeful sense)

This summer really has been full of twists and turns and a bunch of busy business that I've been attending. If you've been following this blog since day one, you're either psychotic killer stalking me, or a mastermind terrorist trying to hack my information, or just a good friend. It's okay...you don't have to answer immediately....and if you're still reading at this point, I'm just pulling your leg. ;)

Anyway, let me get right to the word of the week....Education-- the most powerful word in the english dictionary that you will ever get to know. It helps you stay informed with the topics that you are currently following after; it helps you learn more about the universe and why it began; it helps analyze a classic scene in a Disney movie, animated by Milt Kahl; it even helps you get your good throwing stone prepared when you want to stone Pat Robertson for making another false predictions. ;)

As a young and aspiring college student, entering my Junior year in college, I am finally realizing my potential and following after my dreams and leaving stepping stones behind for other future students to follow.

This whole past week has been me rediscovering Technology, Literature, the Arts, History and much more. And while I embark on this magnificent quest for knowledge, it will to the prize that I so long sought-- my own conclusion.

Forming your own conclusions is the most wonderful achievement that a person can ever accomplish in life. It may not get you an Oscar, or get you a Eisner Award, or an Emmy, but it will lead you to the person you anxiously long to be.

And I personally thank God that I'm still alive and developed my own views within the past few years. I really hope the next few years down the road will be more rewarding in my educational journey...hey, for most people it will never end.

So yeah. It seems as though this sketch wasn't the best interpretation of this warehouse found at my college. Oh well, at list I'm trying to get the perspective down.

Right now, I can't seem to look back at what kind of perspective this sketch required (though it could very well be a combination of both 1 and 2 point perspective), but I think it still looks good for practice.

My Room 

...or at least a sketch of it. Seriously, I think there's more to it that I could've fixed about it. I mean, it's not bad at all, but my roommate's desk looks so disproportionate adjacent to how it really is in real life. Oh well-- practice makes perfect.

While I was in class yesterday, my Professor suggested that I work on the eyes and nose a bit so I can get those features nailed down while I'm drawing my tennis player drawing.

Thursday night, I got bored so I decided to do a sketchdump featuring some classic cartoon characters. I must say, they look very dignified. ;)

Of course, if you folks didn't know this by now, Glen Keane has resigned from Disney earlier last week. Since it's brought such an uproar, I decided to do a sketch of Beast and Ratigan to calm the storm XD.

I must say, Bob Clampett isn't really one of my biggest idols, but I do admire his animation direction. So out of boredom Saturday night, I decided to draw Tweety Bird.

Tim Burton sketchdump

Ah yes, Tim Burton-- one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. You know, I never had the time to really draw more of his material, but I really want to. I should rewatch all of his movies so I can start copying his artistic direction. It's so unique and creative.

Ren's Happy Helmet

Gotta love Ren and Stimpy. I've always wanted to draw Ren's happy transformation sequence from the episode 'Stimpy's Invention.' It has to be one of the best sequences ever in Ren and Stimpy.

update before spring break!!

Sorry that I haven't had any time to really update this week. It's been extra busy considering that I have been preparing for a midterm or two this week. But I'm confident that I'm 99.9% done. In the meantime, here's some of the work I did.

Cross Contour practice

This is something I drew monday, the day before art class. It's nice to now that I'm getting better at drawing different angles of flags or fabrics when they're bent.

This is based off a photo that was found on my Professor's art site for students. It's certaintly helping me with basic shapes and value without relying on lines all the time.

This is just a rough sketch of the north side of my dorm on campus. It's not the most accurate sketch of the building, considering that I still need to work on perspective and other details, but it's good for a suggestion piece.

Burnes Hogarth portrait

I think I'm getting better at drawing this portraits bit by bit. Sure there's some details missing, but the overall shading and lines are proof that I'm arriving to what I want to do with my art. :D 

Amelia Enmity voodoo redux sketch

And of course, I couldn't resist a little Amelia Enmity sketch. I missed drawing her so much, that I decided to redraw my old sketch of her practicing voodoo. XD 

I can certainly tell that my value is starting to show in this sketch, and my perspective has improved.

Still Life Practice Fruit

This is just a resketch of an old fruit piece that I drew last week. I wasn't too pleased with the results of the first one. I like this better.

This was also a 2nd take on a shape drawing that I did. I consider this an improvement from before because I'm less focused on drawing the lines and more focused on the shading and perspective.

Burnes Hogarth hands

I didn't have art class this week, so I took the liberty of practicing with hands so I could improve on drawing more parts of the body. I may continue practicing with legs if I have more time.

 Chuck Jones drawings

I've been doing a lot of reading on the history of animation, including from books like Chuck Amuck, so I decided to practice drawing some Chuck Jones style Looney Tunes. I think there's much that needs work on with the way I'm drawing them. I think I may focus more on the human figure before I dive back into drawing cartoons.

Burnes Hogarth legs

I really wanted to experiment with Burnes Hogarth legs before I started devouting myself to drawing real life legs, being that I haven't drawn enough legs before, I really wanted to get them down.

And now that I'm finally getting the art of drawing legs down, my practice is paying off.

Oh no! A Bug! Get it off!

This is the first time I drew a bug, and continue practicing with value. This is pretty good for the first time. :)

Burnes Hogarth practice

This week, I'm working on legs. The amount is suppose to be limited 3 pages a day, but I'm thinking about drawing more legs to get the feel of drawing them in varied positions, as well as real life so I'm not so much reliant on the book.

More Arms

I drew some more arms before and during my Studio Drawing 2 class. The bottom one was first arm of the day, followed by the next two coming up. The biggest challenge that my Professor told me to work on was to focus more on getting rid of the 'line' feel of the arms and give them more edges and value. That shouldn't be too hard.

Waltham Forest variations

These two forest sketches are in conjunction with each other in an act that's apart of Knight of the Burning Pestle play. They both go together in Act 2, and the bottom scene is seperate by itself in scene three.

At the bottom sketch, I tried to experiment with more of what my Art Professor advised and gave the trees more value rather than lines. So far I think it's not bad, but I think it still needs work.

Proposed Forum characters

Of course, to retain the cartoon element of this blog, I drew a pair of characters that I hope to pitch to my college paper, The Forum. They're twin 10-year old intellectual sisters named Lindsay and Lydia; even though they are both intellectually alike and identical twins, they are polar opposite when it comes to tastes in literature, art, food, etc.  But if they can agree on anything, they can both critique movies together. ;)

While the sketch for me looks pretty flat, I intend to put my skills to practice and make them come to life if they are greenlighted by the Forum editors.
