recollecting...

Howdy blog goers! I haven't updated this blog for a bit, but I still managed to keep myself busy with my family and other things. It seems as though I haven't been drawing as much as I thought I would this weekend. At least I still managed to draw a bit this weekend. Anyway, here's some art.

Bicep reflex
I drew this one thursday night since I had nothing much to do. It's nice to know that I'm getting used to drawing arms more as well as experimenting with muscle tones. I can't wait to see what body part I'll be drawing this week. ;)

Calvin and Hobbes sketchdump
I was bored so I decided to experiment with a little Calvin and Hobbes art while I was watching Breaking Bad on friday night. Not much of Hobbes though. lol

Merrythought's room
I was bored, so I decided to draw another part of Merrythought's room for the Knight of Burning Pestle play, just to experiment with perspective and designing furniture. On the left is a cupboard with a locked drawer compartment which allows the person to hide beer or magazines. ;)

Superbook--Old vs New
This is a famous sketch that I drew in hopes to tackle the new Superbook that was being created by the new production team at CBN. I never liked the new Superbook, so I thought what it would be like if Chris, Joy and Gizmo watched the new one...^^

I can tell that I vastly improved compared to this piece:
And this one was just 9 months ago. Time really does fly, right?

new updates...

Guess what folks? Yesterday, I started my first day of Studio Drawing 2 class. :D And since I managed to keep my talents up this whole week, I decided to update with what I drew.

Jim's Grocer Shop
This is just another set drawing I did for the play while I was watching Dark Crystal monday night. I think the perspective kinda needs work, but it's pretty good for the first time. I especially like the way I subtlely referenced 'Jim Henson's Creature Shop' here XD.

Big Bird sketch
Since I'm still in the Sesame Street mood, I decided to take my chance by drawing 'the bird'. ;) I like some of the uniqueness in this take on Big Bird. He was one of my favorite Sesame Street characters. :)

 Shapes sketch
This I drew while my Studio Drawing 2 Professor was teaching his Studio Drawing 1 class. lol Since I'm taking my new Studio Drawing 2 class as an independent study, I basically sit at the side while my Professor teaches the class. But of course, we set up time that we'll spend together before and after his Studio Drawing 1 session, so I can fulfill my time there. :)

 Burnes Hogarth skethes

These are more Burnes Hogarth sketches that I did yesterday-- one in class, and two which my Professor assigned me to do. :) I think these are great sketches considering that I'm drawing more often.

 Human arm comparison

Of course, I wanted to test my skills and see how I manage to use them without the Burnes Hogarth book by sketching this human arm for reference.

That's all for now folks. ;)

feelin blue...

Today, I am just feeling blue and slow. Maybe by the end of the night, when I start Studio Drawing 2, I'll feel better. Anyway, here's some art...

Cookie Monster
I've always been a big fan of Cookie Monster when I saw him on Sesame Street. He's the ultimate reason why I eat cookies. :P

Anyway, I think the extra hair was kind unnecessary, and should've done something else about it. All in all, this is a good sketch.

Castle Hallway
This is just a Castle Hallway of Moldavia's Court, which is found in the play. Mind you, the condition of this design isn't really the greatest, but I think I didn't do that bad a job with the knights and the perspective.

That's all for now folks.

getting tired by the end of the night.

City/street sketch and Barber Shop sketch

Once again, these two drawings are for the play that I'm involved with. The street/city sketch above was a retake of another sketch that I had previously drawn and redrew it so I could improve upon the perspective and the walls. I can see a bit of improvement in what I've done so far.

As for the barber shop, I think the perspective still needs work because if you pay attention to the line seperations between the sidewalk and the back alleys, it's waaay off. But I can still work to improve.

Looney Tunes/Sesame Street sketchdump
I got bored, so I decided to do a sketchdump of Bugs, Daffy, Cookie Monster, Mr. Johnson, Elmo and Kermit from Sesame Street, plus Gizmo from Superbook/Trouble Shooters. Nice to see that I can still draw Gizmo, and the other characters above.

 Burnes Hogarth sketch
This is just another sketch practice session from Burnes Hogarth's book again. Nice to know that I'm getting better and working with the neck, even though this does look a little disproportionate.

That's just about it for now folks! See you next time. ;)

Big News and new art...

You guys might be wondering by now, what my super secret project that I have been mentioning lately this past month? Well, since I just had my first meeting with the people who are involved with that project, I figured now was the time to come out of the closet and reveal the news: I am involved in a college play, entitled 'The Knight of the Burning Pestle!' The same play that was based off a 16th Century written by Francis Beaumont.

Yes sir, folks! I am going to be set designing for a college play so I can put my talents to good use. Remember all those sketches of those forests, streets, rooms, and buildings? Well, those are all ideas for the play which will eventually end up on stage in the coming weeks.

I'm hoping all that hard earn work will pay off and that everybody involved in the production will do a great job. :)

But anyway, let me direct your attention to the art portion of the post as I share you some of my other recent accomplishments.

Burnes Hogarth practice
Just working on muscle variation with this piece I saw from BH's Anatomy book. I like how I'm getting better with form, posture, face details, etc. This is good practice especially if I want to get better.

Comic book shop ad
For the first time ever, I got to design my very first ad for a local comic book shop in downtown Nyack. As you know, the name of the shop is called 'Funny Business comics', distributer of comics, toys, and Legos. Aside from the contact numbers that I illustrated on the ad, you can also contact them at their local website here:
http://www.funnybusinessonline.com/

Amelia Enmity/Bobby Bender comic
Remember when I said that I wanted to developed my very own horror/dark comedy story? Well, I consider this little comic, a beta story. It's not really much, but I'm still glad I did it for laughs. The personality of the characters are so far spot on and the ink job is pretty decent. The only thing I'm not very pleased with was the end panel where Amelia says 'Shut up' first, followed by Bobby Bender's remark after that. You see, it's suppose to be the other way around. I think after I get some set designing work out of the way, I'm going probably redraw this so I can declare my best work 100%.

That's just about it for tonight folks. Hope to hear back soon. ;)

A Set and Scenary

 More drawings!
These two drawings were done Friday night.

The city street sketch below kinda needs work, perspective-wise. You can tell there's a lot that needs improvement upon. The street doesn't follow correctly with the sidewalk, and buildings in the foreground don't really flow properly together. But what I do like is the light emission that's coming out of the lamp posts.

Now, the Inn sketch above isn't too bad, and is actually a little better than the sketch below. One of the windows don't work and some of the walls kinda look crooked, but it's not bad at all for a first time.

That's just about it for tonight.

Femme Fatale piece

This is another Film Noir piece that I'm submitting to my college's magazine, the Fine Print, since they're currently excepting Film Noir artwork.

Looking at how I'm drawing my women, I'm starting to notice how my anatomy practice has been improving in my artwork in general. I like how I managed to give my femme fatale girl a nice pair of ta-ta's that really pop out- in an artist's perspective of course. :P

The only errors that I can really spot are some of the small strands of hair that stuck out. Also, the hand on her hip tended to be a bit too small for a woman. For a well done piece, they could've been better.

Above all, I think this is a sure sign that 2012 could very well be a great year for publishing art (but of course, I can't promise that ;) ).

huzzah...storyboards!!!

What you are watching right now are 6 more storyboards that I drew myself for the past two days. I actually did two yesterday and four today. I'm sure you can go out on a limb and tell what works and what doesn't with the storyboards. But if you combine them together with the other previous storyboards I've drawn, you got yourself two sequences combined. :)

I think I may wind up having some of these storyboards redrawn just for the sake of correcting my errors.

Have fun checking them out. ;)

Not much to do tonight

 Burnes Hogarth sketchdump
I didn't really do too much today, aside from the sketchdump at the bottom that I did tonight. Anyway, I really need to focus on drawing hands more often so I can express believability as well as muscle drawings better. Not much else to really comment really.

bedroom sketch
Just a quick practice with some scenary so I can nail down drawing a room better.

Zoey's Ballet
And of course, my favorite piece of Zoey, from Sesame Street, doing the ballet. Being that I still watched Sesame Street at the age of 12, I really dug Zoey's new ballet look-- it made her more girly.

And with this sketch, I gave her a bit of a 'Dee-Dee' vibe from Dexter's Lab. XD

You'll notice that the hands look goofy and not like human hands while they're in the ballet form-- I did that on purpose because I treated her hands with 'puppet-like' qualities because I think it emphasizes how puppet-like she is despite her new cartoony style.

And that's all I have to say about that. :P

Blah!

Quackerjack sketchdump
You know? I haven't really drawn anything Disney for quite a bit, so I decided to do a Darkwing Duck sketchdump devoted to Quackerjack.

As I analyze my ability, I can't tell if I'm tired of drawing anything Disney-esque or not. On one hand, I really loved watching a lot of the Disney Afternoon shows, as well as Darkwing Duck, for their storytelling; on the other hand, the style is very simplistic and classical.

I guess it's because I haven't really watched any DA shows in so long and have

Angry Raven
Teen Titans has always been one of my favorite TV shows since I was a teen myself. :P So, I felt compelled to draw Raven after watching the show again. I think she's one of my favorite characters out of all the Titans because she has this very quiet, gothic, and mysterious personality. Plus, she has great magical abilities, and a cool go to catchphrase '

Kit Kat-- Kung Pow Kat's sidekick
This is another Kung Pow Kat-related sketch for a friend that I need to submit for that story we're working on. :) I really like this design because you tell a lot about his personality by the way of his clothing-- they're torn, oily, worn out, etc. The inking really works too.

Alien Nation
I finally started tackling another sequence for my project :D This time, it involves Spork! I just love the way he's running because the shading adds speed and liveliness to his style of running. XD

Could you get the door please?

Actually, I think somebody else got that XD

This is something I'm going to submit to my College Magazine, Fine Print; they're doing something Film-noir style for the magazine, so I thought I loan some of my talents.

big surprises...

Alien Nation Church promo storyboard
Yeah, I kinda neglected my storyboards for my promo, so I thought I resume it yesterday. I like how I'm trying to experiment with action-- you can tell by the Jim Davis-esque lines that I picked up.

WildKat
This vehicle design is called the WildKat-- of course, I didn't need to tell you that with the title written out. ;) Anyway, this was a design for that Kung Pow Kat story that my friend and I are working on. He already started writing it over the holidays, and I offered some constructive criticism. Now I'm just returning the factor with more art. ;)

The color here does seem a little odd though; I may redraw it with a new color coding.

Burnes Hogarth sketch
This counts as my first official Burnes Hogarth practice for the new year. I need to work more with the male human anatomy better because I'm working on something that will require that kind of structure. Sorry for the tilted screen.

Gerard Way artwork
I've always admired MCR's music, as well as Gerard Way's artwork. His stuff reminds me of both Jhonen Vasquez and Bruce Timm. I never got to read Umbrella Academy though. But from what I heard, the series is great. I outta buy myself the first volume after I finish reading my other current books. :)

And last but not least...

Spider-Monster!
Being a big Sesame Street fan, yesterday I caught a bit of the new Spider-Man musical parody this week and watching it made me feel hopeful for Sesame Street because it seems they're reliving their glory days. I say that because good ol' Mr. Johnson was seen with Grover in the sketch. In case you don't know who I'm talking about, check out this sketch from the old days of Sesame Street...

Also, here's a preview of the new Spider-Monster skit...

Well, I think I'm going to be off now. But I will see you next update so I can finally talk about my resolutions. :)

2nd new year post.

Grocery shop take 1
I'm trying to experiment with more perspectives with how I draw a room and where I position the items. For instance, the stand containing the cans are suppose to be located far back, while the bigger container is suppose to upfront.

Barber shop take 1
Hmmm... I think the angle here could be better. Something about it says that the lines on the floor do not follow correctly and the position on the chairs need work. That's all I can think about right now.

In the meantime, I have an episode of Batman: TAS to watch. ;)

last sketch of 2011/first sketch of 2012

Sesame Street sketchdump
Being that the year was coming to a close, I thought I'd experiment for a bit and doodle some of my favorite Sesame Street muppets. As you know, I'm a big Sesame Street fan. So I thought maybe when I have more downtime, I could draw the characters in my own style, rather than what was done to death over and over again.

Hellboy 2012 sketch
I can't say this is my first official sketch of the new year (being that I drew another Sesame Street doodle dump yesterday at a dinner), but it still counts for what it's worth.

Anyway, since I'm an HB lover, I thought I'd draw him again for old time sakes. But you know, something about this drawing of HB needs improvement-- the semi-gloss needs improvement, the hands need improvement, the pose needs improvement-- everything needs improvement.

But to give myself credit, I think it's a decent sketch to start off 2012. And speaking of 2012, I need to establish what my resolutions are gonna be. Expect that in my next blog post this week. ;)
