Two Timid Tomboys

Helga Pataki and Gosalyn Mallard
Two of my favorite tomboys together at last! Don't they look cute with their handmade weapons? XD

Character Mentor sketches

So I decided to start using the Character Mentor book again since I haven't used it in a while. I really like the variety of poses that I have been varietizing here.

 Cat-Tankerous Punches it
I was going to draw DW with him, as drawn in James Silvani's 14th cover, but I had no room. So I drew him punching his invisble friend. ;)

More to come asap!

Last Day of School

Just as I promised, the last update of the month before school lets out. All I gotta say is...

I Want That Bear!
This bear was a result of many sketch studies composed from my Walter Foster animation study booklet that I bought last year. I haven't been using it as often as I should, but I have started using it more frequently these past two days.

 Burnes Hogarth female studies

Once again, these two female body sketches were taken from my Burnes Hogarth book. I'm trying to pay attention more to details, so this bottom one, I decided to draw again. My Art teacher said I have a habit of drawing it a lot.

 Let's Face it!
I also have a tendency to daw this face as well. This time, I think I'm more attentive to the actual shape of the skull-- top and back.

 portrait studies
This is just a portrait study of me just to get in the habit of drawing more portraits. My Art teacher thinks that I really need to improve upon that area because he says that they're in the Freshmen High School area right now. I agree with him-- I just wish it were easier to manage.

Darkwing Duck panel study
Ah yes. I decided to revisit my Darkwing Duck fan days and recreate this panel from the very first issue when Boom Studios was distributing them. It certainly looks miles ahead from last year's attempt, which I decided not to post.

All I have to do now is take my last final and then I'm home free! See you soon. ;)

Big News and new art...

You guys might be wondering by now, what my super secret project that I have been mentioning lately this past month? Well, since I just had my first meeting with the people who are involved with that project, I figured now was the time to come out of the closet and reveal the news: I am involved in a college play, entitled 'The Knight of the Burning Pestle!' The same play that was based off a 16th Century written by Francis Beaumont.

Yes sir, folks! I am going to be set designing for a college play so I can put my talents to good use. Remember all those sketches of those forests, streets, rooms, and buildings? Well, those are all ideas for the play which will eventually end up on stage in the coming weeks.

I'm hoping all that hard earn work will pay off and that everybody involved in the production will do a great job. :)

But anyway, let me direct your attention to the art portion of the post as I share you some of my other recent accomplishments.

Burnes Hogarth practice
Just working on muscle variation with this piece I saw from BH's Anatomy book. I like how I'm getting better with form, posture, face details, etc. This is good practice especially if I want to get better.

Comic book shop ad
For the first time ever, I got to design my very first ad for a local comic book shop in downtown Nyack. As you know, the name of the shop is called 'Funny Business comics', distributer of comics, toys, and Legos. Aside from the contact numbers that I illustrated on the ad, you can also contact them at their local website here:
http://www.funnybusinessonline.com/

Amelia Enmity/Bobby Bender comic
Remember when I said that I wanted to developed my very own horror/dark comedy story? Well, I consider this little comic, a beta story. It's not really much, but I'm still glad I did it for laughs. The personality of the characters are so far spot on and the ink job is pretty decent. The only thing I'm not very pleased with was the end panel where Amelia says 'Shut up' first, followed by Bobby Bender's remark after that. You see, it's suppose to be the other way around. I think after I get some set designing work out of the way, I'm going probably redraw this so I can declare my best work 100%.

That's just about it for tonight folks. Hope to hear back soon. ;)

Blah!

Quackerjack sketchdump
You know? I haven't really drawn anything Disney for quite a bit, so I decided to do a Darkwing Duck sketchdump devoted to Quackerjack.

As I analyze my ability, I can't tell if I'm tired of drawing anything Disney-esque or not. On one hand, I really loved watching a lot of the Disney Afternoon shows, as well as Darkwing Duck, for their storytelling; on the other hand, the style is very simplistic and classical.

I guess it's because I haven't really watched any DA shows in so long and have

Angry Raven
Teen Titans has always been one of my favorite TV shows since I was a teen myself. :P So, I felt compelled to draw Raven after watching the show again. I think she's one of my favorite characters out of all the Titans because she has this very quiet, gothic, and mysterious personality. Plus, she has great magical abilities, and a cool go to catchphrase '

Kit Kat-- Kung Pow Kat's sidekick
This is another Kung Pow Kat-related sketch for a friend that I need to submit for that story we're working on. :) I really like this design because you tell a lot about his personality by the way of his clothing-- they're torn, oily, worn out, etc. The inking really works too.

Alien Nation
I finally started tackling another sequence for my project :D This time, it involves Spork! I just love the way he's running because the shading adds speed and liveliness to his style of running. XD

Taking care of business

Hey guys! Just letting you know that I am still drawing in the midst of Finals that are coming up. So I need to start studying my buns off, which could possibly result in less drawing. That doesn't mean I won't be updating this blog as often as I have been doing now.

Darkwing Duck sketchdump

All apologies for the slant on this photo here-- I had a hard time trying to adjust it with my scanner; it was really annoying, but at least I got to put these up. Anyway, I copied these off of James Silvani's concept artwork gallery on the negaverse website where all the DW fans gather. I outta regather there so I can share my DW fandom sometime. :)

Spork studies
Mind you that these aren't in the perfect quality, drawing these were still loads of fun. I got to experiment with some new cartoon expressions that probably were never done before. XD

Amelia Enmity/Bobby Bender
And last, but certainly not least, the unveiling of Amelia Enmity's new design as well as a new character/friend of hers-- Bobby 'Bloody' Bender-- the obsessive compulsive vampire. Mind you that this isn't the final design of Bobby, but it certainly is work posting for the sake of history because there are a bunch of features here that I want to keep. :)

I especially enjoy AE's new look too because it looks more matured from before. :)

And the fact that they're hovering above the ground is epic!! XD

I actually drew it like that because I drew AE at a slanted angle, which I had an occasional problem of drawing my characters in that fashion. So, to correct my mistake, I decided to draw her hovering on a piece of earth to add to the effect.

Merry Christmas in November?

Not really. But this submission that I will be showcasing to my college paper will hopefully make it's way around the Christmas holidays-- the most wonderful time of the year. :)

Ork, Glork N Spork Christmas
I know I have something already planned for these guys, but I thought I do the pleasure of drawing them in this pic just in time for Christmas.

Walking Dead sketchdump
Just a little sketch warmup earlier so I could draw the Christmas sketch above. I should practice more variation on humans so I can get better.

Gosalynn Mallard
Huzzah! I finally managed to draw Gosalynn from Darkwing Duck. Before, I couldn't draw her to save my life-- now I can. :D Mind you she's not perfect, but if I keep practicing with her character models by Toby Shelton, I will get better. :D

I hope to draw her again in the future. :)

More to come after the break (not Thanksgiving Break) XD

Well, here's another update to keep this blog in motion. I'm glad that I'm drawing more and more.

 Bone Sketchdump

For those who don't know, I have discovered the wonders of the Bone series by Jeff Smith. After reading it this summer, I felt inspired to improve my cartooning through the series. :)

Mike Mignola's Hellboy practice
This is my first attempt at working on some pages from the Hellboy 'Right Hand of Doom' comics. Mind you that it it has it's errors, but all in all, it's not bad. :) Mike Mignola's artwork really does inspire me to draw at my level but improve immensely.

One Shot Fanart
After recollecting with the Darkwing Duck comics that James Silvani has worked on, I realized how much I fell in love with One-Shot-- he totally reminded me Petey Pate from the Ralph Bakshi's Mighty Mouse cartoon series. I hope to draw more of him in the future. :)

Zombie Girl 2.0
Remember my zombie girl from last month's comic submission for the college paper? Well, I decided to drew her a better pose and fix her up a bit. I actually think this sketch is better than before. :)

Anyway, I hope to update this blog some more and share some more submissions for the college paper. :)

Dumping my sketches here...

I have a habit of typing in a centered text format. lol

Anyway, just wanted to let you cool cats who are viewing my blog right now that I am still keeping busy this week, as well as drawing more and more art. The most that I have drawn this week had to be sunday night.

But enough talk-- here's some more cartoon sketches...

Daffy Duck studies
Just some more observation sketches from watching more and more Chuck Jones cartoons, most notably 'Duck Amuck'. That was one fun cartoon that I watched growing up. I still have minor detail issues to work out with Daffy though.

Darkwing Duck cover 10 A practice
And since I was so obsessed with drawing Ducks, I decided to practice with this DW Duck cover featuring the ever so suave Steelbeak and the founders of FOWL [Fiendish Organization for World Larceny]. I currently own this issue, but in the Cover B edition (still need to get issue 11 though :P)

You can tell with this cover that there's a bunch of details that went amiss. Despite that, I worked to at least get it done, with or without DW on the bottom center, and managed to make some progress.

Ren and Stimpy sketch
This is a sketch about a whale...No! This is a sketch about being happy! That's right-- it's the Happy Happy Joy Joy sketch!

And last, but certainly not least....
My funny that I submitted to the forum! :D

That's right folks! My first strip of the year finally made it's way into the forum. It took me 2 months to get something published in that college paper, but I am grateful for it. I can't wait till the next issue comes out. :)

Coming soon, I have a special surprise for the next post. Be sure to stop by when you guys get a chance... ;)

Better days ahead...

As you can see, it seems as though after a few series of sketchwork that things will be better than last week.
Just take a look at the pictures to come...

Darkwing Duck panel practice
As you can see in this sketch, I'm starting to get the hang of drawing Darkwing Duck's face. You see, I could never really get the hang of drawing his mouth connecting to his face; but after practicing with volumetrics and other DW drawings, his face is starting to show. And if you pay close attention, you'll notice the differences between the original panel and this one.

Chuck Jones practice
I felt the need of drawing some more Chuck Jones art to enhance my cartooning. You can tell that Wile E. Coyote still needs work with form, but overall, this is a good start. I like how Ralph the dog came out and managed to execute his form

Burnes Hogarth practice
You know, after working with these quick sketches from Burne Hogarth's book 'Dynamic Anatomy', some of what I learned last year in Studio Drawing 1 are starting to look familiar...Still, this is good practice so I can get a better handle on human-like drawings and practice with Anatomy.

Ork, Glork N Spork
And of course, let me have the pleasure of reintroducing my 3 aliens-- Ork, Glork N Spork. I have something very special planned for these three guys. Wait till you see in the days ahead. ;)

just trying to keep busy

Hey guys! Just popping in and updating my blog before I go about the rest of my day and get work done for school. I hope you enjoy some of the art that I have in store for you all. :)

Just is just my first take at sketching some scenary from an episode of Darkwing Duck-- 'Steerminator'. When I was looking at the episode again, I just had to draw that one set of scenery before Gosalynn and Honker emerge from underneath.

Franken Gizmo and Corkey the Mummy
This is just an old resketch of some costume ideas I had in mind for Gizmo C. Robot and Corkey Roberts, for my Trouble Shooters project. Gizmo makes one badass frankenstein monster. ;)

And of course, since I've been reinspired by James Silvani's art again, I decided to practice with some panels from the DW #3 comic so I can practice drawing angle shots in comics better. I didn't complete the 5th and final panel in the comic because I felt like I was running out of space.

Zombie comic submission
And of course, I finally got to finish my comic strip submission for the college paper. :D I am proud of the hard work that I put into drawing these zombies. It seems like I just keep getting better and better. :)

quick art update before filler on Comic Con

Just wanted to quickly showcase my artwork before I post information/photos on my time back at Comic Con.

Zombie girl
Here's is another zombie character that will appear in my 3 panel comic for the college paper. I'm happy with how she came out, especially since I went lightly on the pencils. Even the red was a good touch to her complexion.

Darkwing Duck sketchdump
After meeting up with James Silvani at his booth, I aspired to draw more Darkwing Duck art again. Here I did a quick sketchdump. It was great to draw somthing DW related again. I even managed to successfully draw my first sketch of Gosalynn. :D She's not perfect, but she's better than I what I tried before-- I could barely draw her.

Anyway, as soon as I'm ready, I'll sit back and talk about my great time at Comic Con. :)

Callin' in Sick

This school week ended for me quicker than I thought it would. Believe it or not, I came down with a bad case of the fever and nasal congestion. Darn it! My 2nd week of college and I already had to cancel classes. :-/

Luckily, I was able to keep myself occupied art-wise.

Hah, this was my attempt at drawing a tree right outside Moseley Hall. This is considered one of the first trees I've drawn. I like the way it came out, but I feel the background detail was completely unnecessary.

It's been awhile since we heard from our old friend, Megavolt. So I took the pleasure of drawing him for old time sakes.

I gotta apologize for this sketch dump; it came out a bit crappy because I was experimenting, but did it as a rush job.

Of course, I was eventually able to draw better sketches, with my character, Amelia L. Enmity. That's right fans! I finally gave Amelia a last name. :D From this day forth, she shall be known as 'Amelia Enmity'. Because it matches her personality spot on. :D

All in all, I think I'm making more accomplishments, art-wise. Soon I'm going to prioritize drawing more art for my Trouble Shooters project, and try to revisit an old unfinished script that I wanted to do.

Talk to you later, fans. ;)

Dangerous sketches...

I've been checking around Sabrina Alberghetti's art earlier this week, and decided to sketch some of her Darkwing Duck art, just to get a feel for drawing Darkwing, which I've been having trouble with-- up until now.

It was also nice to sketch Bushroot, since I find him the most fun to draw.

Of course, this wouldn't be an experiment post if I didn't attempt to sketch some art by Jack Kirby. Unfortunately, Cap'n A looks crappy in this sketch, while Nick Fury looks much better.
